HEMA is undergoing a process of institutionalization through the establishment of a national federation. The values conveyed by this practice are reflected in the preferences put forth by HEMA practitioners for maintaining a unified activity. However, the emergence of “new values” shows the changeover from a community system to a federal process, involving several representations of HEMA and a normalization process.
