Body Capabilities in Adolescence: Emersion of the Living Body in Step Aerobics

By Aline Paintendre, Bernard Andrieu
English

This paper examines how through the practice of step aerobics adolescents can gain new self-awareness and through physical exercise overcome restrictions on their body capabilities. It examines possible interpretations of their sensations and the weight of the outside world, as well as the physical and sensory tendencies the body seems drawn to. Adolescents’ interpretations of their own actions cannot be objective since they cannot overcome the gap between the “living body” and the “experienced body.” The objective assessment of step aerobics and the experience of it in a school context are compared.
