Toward an Interactionist Explanation of the Development of Sport Excellence

Sport excellence is a topic that has created considerable debate within the sports domain. To explain the phenomenon of sport excellence, researchers apply either an environmental, biological, or psychological framework to success in sport. This paper reviews the scientific literature on the subject and discusses the limits of these different methodological approaches, following which an interactionist approach is proposed to inspire new avenues for research and intervention in the field of sport excellence.
