This article focuses on considering emotions as a driver of innovation in team sports. Through an interview with Pablo Morel, a high-level coach in women’s handball, a professional reflection gradually develops around several questions rooted in current scientific research. What role should emotions play in the design of a performance system? What emotions does the coach experience, what are they linked to, and how are they regulated within the social game? How can the emotions of players be taken into account, both in training and during matches, in both individual and collective contexts? To what extent can a coach perceive and exploit the emotional contagion processes that emerge during action? Is it the responsibility of the coach, their staff, and/or the players to consider emotions in order to enhance performance in team sports?
