The relationship between physical activity and health: are there still controversies?

By Martine Duclos
English

We can no longer talk about controversies concerning physical activity/sedentarity and health. While there may still be confusion about terminology (physical activity [PA], sport, physical inactivity, sedentary behavior), the effects of PA on health have been scientifically demonstrated with a high level of evidence and the mechanisms underlying these effects have largely been explained. The discussions are centered on, among other things, measuring PA, the amount of PA needed for good health, and how to integrate PA into the care pathway.
